The MAX302 by ThorLabs is a state-of-the-art 3-axis NanoMax flexure stage designed to provide precise nanometric positioning on three orthogonal axes. Whether it’s the aligning optical fibers, waveguides, optoelectronic packages or other high-resolution positioning applications, the MAX302 is the perfect tool for the user’s general purpose laboratory needs.
One of the key features of the MAX302 is its customizable drive system, allowing each axis to be configured according to the specific precision or automation required for your application. Whether a simple thumbscrew setup is needed for a multimode fiber launch system, or a more sophisticated automated alignment setup using stepper motor actuators, the MAX302 is flexible enough to meet demands. With a total range of travel of 4mm on each axis (2mm about the nominal position), the unit boasts an innovative flexure design that delivers exceptional performance and flexibility when combined with its modular drive system. The DRV208 stepper motor drive, the DRV3 differential micrometer, and the DRV004 thumbscrew are all compatible with the MAX302, allowing for versatile use in a wide range of laboratory settings.
Moreover, the MAX302 is also compatible with open-loop piezoelectric actuators, although these are not included with the unit. Each piezo channel features a coaxial SMC connector, providing a travel range of 20 µm. While the open-loop design doesn't have an internal strain gauge sensor, the unit can still achieve an impressive resolution of 20 nm. With an external piezo actuator, piezo travel can be increased to 40 µm, and position feedback can be incorporated on the linear axes for improved repeatability and linearity of piezo motion.
The MAX302 can be easily mounted using a MMP1 top plate and two AMA010 mounting cleats. Two central keyways in the top platform allow for rapid system reconfiguration while maintaining accessory alignment. The crossed pattern of the top platform also makes it suitable for both right- and left-handed use, providing greater flexibility and convenience to users. To ensure the unit functions at its best, it's essential that the travel of the moving platform isn't obstructed to avoid any damage to the internal flexures. Moreover, the MAX302 can also be used with compatible off-center or breadboard mounting, as necessary.
