The ThorLabs MBT616D is an exceptional MicroBlock compact flexure stage designed for a variety of applications that require micron resolution, including fiber launch systems. This versatile and independent three-axis nanopositioning stage is developed to meet the most stringent requirements associated with aligning fiber optics.
The MBT616D is compatible with a differential micrometer drive, which provides 4 mm of fine position adjustment with 0.5 mm travel per revolution and 300µm of ultra fine adjustment with 50 µm per revolution. These features make it the perfect solution for aligning single-mode fibers. The parallel flexure design of this stage provides three orthogonal linear translation degrees of freedom without the severe limitations of stiction and friction found in traditional bearing-based stages. Additionally, the use of nested flexure plates enables the MBT616D to operate indefinitely without the need for lubrication, which is a significant source of drift in positioning devices.
The MBT616D's top mounting platform is adjustable along three translational axes (x, y, and z) with respect to the base. It has a nominal working platform height of 62.5 mm and provides a common optical-axis height of 75 mm. The mounting platform on top has 4-40 (M2) screws, 16 6-32 (M3) screws and 9 8-32 (M4) screws crossed in a pattern, accompanied by two 3mm wide keyways. These features allow for rapid system reconfiguration while maintaining accessory alignment, and the crossed pattern enables changing the orientation of the MBT616D for right- or left-handed use. The market offers a large selection of accessories to mount the device such as waveguides, microscopy objectives, fiber, collimation packs, along with other items. The MBT616D can also be configured with a variety of fiber launch optomechanics.
The MBT616D can be used with an MMP1 top plate, which contains a central keyway that allows for easy and repeatable alignment of all other compatible accessories. It can also be mounted off-center or onto a breadboard with a DB13P1 top plate if necessary.
