The MST602 by ThorLabs is a high-quality, dual-channel, rack-mounted APT stepper motor controller that is designed to provide a reliable and efficient motion control solution for a wide range of applications. Specifically, the MST602 is intended for use with an APT MMR601 Motion Control 19" Modular Rack System, making it a flexible and versatile tool for those who require precision motion control capabilities.
A major advantage of the MST602 is its compatibility with bi-polar 2-phase stepper motors that are up to 50 W in size, whether feedback from an encoder is provided or not. Compatibility with a wide range of stepper-motor powered nanopositioning actuators and stages, as well as any generic two-phase bi-polar motors of various powers and step sizes, is achievable thanks to this compatibility. This adaptability makes the MST602 an excellent choice for researchers, scientists, and engineers who require a scalable motion control solution.
The MST602 is designed to provide independent control of up to 6 stepper motors within a single APT 19" rack enclosure, allowing users to create multi-axis motion control systems. The USB interface and advanced application software enable multiple channel systems to be seamlessly integrated into a single, large-scale solution. In addition, the APT rack systems can be combined with one or more benchtop units, and the plug-in modules have all the same performance and ease of use features as our benchtop controllers. The modules combine the latest high-speed digital signal processors (DSP), low-noise analog electronics, and ActiveX software technology.
The MST602 can be used with a PC via USB connection when used with an MMR01 Rack enclosure. Standard USB hub technology allows multiple modules to be linked together to a single PC for sophisticated multi-axis motion control tasks. Coupled with the user-friendly APT software, this enables quick and easy setup and operation. The MMR01 is supported by the full suite of APT software tools, and immediate control and visualization of the operation of the stepper motor controllers, as well as any other plug-ins that are installed in the system, can be achieved using the APTUser.exe utility. Moreover, an optional 2-axis joystick console can be utilized with the MMR01 for tactile, manual positioning of a stage.
The MST602 provides a range of key settings that are accessible through a number of graphical interface panels. For example, the motor step resolution and lead screw pitch can be set for a particular motor/actuator combination, phase currents can be limited to suitable peak powers as required, and limit switch configuration is accommodated through a flexible set of limit switch logic settings. Relative and absolute moves can be initiated with move profiles set using velocity profile parameters. The accompanying settings for home sequences are similarly extensive and can be changed for a specific stage or actuator.
