The stepper motor is specifically designed for microstepping applications, allowing for a fixed platform position when no power is supplied to the stage, and enabling smaller and smoother low-speed motion with significantly reduced vibrational noise than DC servo motors.
The NRT100 platform consists of four recirculating ball carrier bearings installed on well-aligned linear guide rails, which make for a fluid and exact movement. The backlash-free precision lead screw is driven by a hybrid 2-phase stepper motor that can achieve 409,600 microsteps per revolution for optimal resolution. When coupled with the BCS series of benchtop controllers, it offers an unprecedented positioning accuracy of 0.1 µm. Hall effect limit switches utilize magnetic-based detection and can be used for protection in both forward and reverse directions. They are highly repeatable, helping ensure consistent performance.
The NRT100's choice of a trapezoidal lead screw offers several benefits over the more common Acme-style thread, including improved durability, lower friction due to improved surface quality, and very little backdrive, eliminating the need for the braking mechanism required with ball screws.
Each NRT100 is calibrated during manufacturing, enabling the controller to correct any mechanical errors present in the system.
