The ThorLabs TDC001 is a T-Cube single channel controller/driver designed to offer efficient manual and automatic control of DC Servo motors. This state-of-the-art device offers a small form factor of 60 mm x 60 mm x 47 mm, and is compatible to use with a number of DC brushed motors that have an encoder feedback.
The TDC001 is a great choice for immediate use with an array of DC servo motors, stages, and actuators. Its versatile software settings and closed-loop tuning easily accommodate any motor/actuator combination. The TDC001 is a great option for those looking for precise motion control. It features limit switch handling, velocity profile settings, control over closed loop PID parameters and even allows the user to make changes to the motor speed and direction on the go. The advanced settings of the product allow the user to customize the lead screw pitch and gearbox ratio, enabling it to be compatible with a variety of actuator configurations.
The TDC001 can be mounted directly to an optical table using the 1/4" (M6) clearance slot in the base plate. Thanks to its small size, this device can be conveniently positioned close to motorized systems. This makes it much easier to manually adjust motor positions with the help of controls on the top panel. Additionally, tabletop operation also allows shorter cable lengths, making it easier to organize and manage cables. The TDC001 comes with USB connectivity, providing easy plug-and-play PC controlled operation. The USB hub standard or a T-Cube controller hub make it possible to connect multiple units to one PC. This is especially beneficial for multi-axis motion control applications. With the controller hub, up to 12 individual T-Cube controllers can be controlled using a single PC.
The TDC001 is also compatible with two platforms that can be used to drive the unit. APT software allows the user to set up complex move sequences while Kinesis software is a newer program that features .NET controls. These software packages include two methods of usage: a graphical user interface (GUI) which is utilized for direct interaction with and control of the controllers immediately upon obtaining the device, and an array of programming interfaces that is able to create custom-integrated positioning and alignment solutions which can be seamlessly programmed with the language of the preference of the user.
