The ThorLabs TIM101 is a T-Cube Piezo Inertia Motor Controller, the perfect solution for controlling a range of piezo positioning stages that are driven by inertia. The TIM101 offers stand-alone manual control on four channels, allowing for continuous jogging or movement, with remote PC control via USB. As a member of the APT family of products, users can benefit from all the features of the user-friendly and versatile APT interface. The TIM101 is also capable of supporting external triggering of movements, joystick control, and fully configurable limit switches, making it an ideal solution for more advanced operation.

Despite its compact footprint, the TIM101 offers fully-featured control capabilities, including “on the fly” changes in move direction, limit switch handling, control over the number of steps performed, and jog settings. The controller can be mounted directly to the optical table, making it more convenient to adjust positions manually using the top panel controls, such as the jog buttons and velocity control slider. Additionally, this allows for minimal drive cable lengths, which makes cable management easier.

Designed to operate specifically with the latest range of Thorlabs piezo inertia motor-driven products, the TIM101 offers a fully featured control capability, including max drive voltage settings, step rate, and step acceleration. This enables support for many different actuator configurations, which can be set via the APT Server software. Many of these parameters are automatically set to allow "out of the box" operation with no further tuning required, providing an easy and convenient user experience.

The TIM101's USB connectivity offers easy "Plug and Play" PC controlled operation, allowing multiple units to be connected via standard USB hub technology to a standard PC or by using the T-Cube Controller Hub for multi-axis control applications. Users can also create advanced custom motion control custom applications that are advanced and sequences using an extensive ActiveX® programming environment, which is compatible with many development tools such as LabView, Visual Basic, Visual C++, C++ Builder, LabWindows/CVI, Matlab, and Delphi.

The TIM101's internal custom sawtooth voltage signal generator has the capability to send sub-millisecond pulses (steps) with amplitudes ranging from 85V to 125V that can be controlled. Only one channel is active at a time, which can be selected using the channel select button on the top of the controller. An external analog input is also provided, either as an external drive option or, when coupled with a position detector, a way to create a closed-loop system.
