The TST101 by ThorLabs is a highly efficient T-Cube APT stepper motor controller for small 2-phase bi-polar stepper motors. Engineered to work with lower powered motors up to 15 V at 12 W operation, the TST101 allows for both manual and automated control, making it highly versatile. The TST101 boasts an impressive range of features that set it apart from earlier controller models. With a choice between trapezoidal and S-shaped velocity profiles, the TST101 offers higher theoretical microstep resolution and speeds more than twice that achieved by its predecessor. Plus, its highly flexible parameterization supports a wide range of stepper motors, stages, and actuators, making it an ideal choice for a variety of applications.
The TST101 also offers full control features with a powerful DSP controller that provides a unique high resolution microstepping capability in a compact unit. With dimensions of 60 mm x 60 mm x 47 mm, it can be easily mounted directly to an optical table using 1/4 inch (M6) clearance slots in the base plate. The TST101 can sit conveniently close to the motorized system, making it easier to manually adjust motor positions via the top panel controls. And because of its compact design, cable management is easier due to minimal drive cable length requirements.
The TST101 is incredibly user-friendly and offers an easy ‘plug and play’ PC controlled operation with APT software, allowing users to quickly set up move sequences. The top panel controls allow for ease of use when saving parameter settings within the unit for true stand-alone operation. This unit is equipped with a USB hub that allows it to be connected to a single PC. It can also be linked up to a specialized T-Cube hub for specialized multi-axis motion control applications. The USB connectivity coupled with the user-friendly APT software allows users to quickly establish complex move sequences in a short period of time.
Other beneficial features of the TST101 include high resolution microstepping consisting of 2048 microsteps per full step, differential encoder feedback for closed loop position, easy to use manual controls with a velocity slider and job buttons, a full software control suite, and intuitive software graphical control panels.
