The ThorLabs ZST6 stepper motor actuator is a top-of-the-line product that offers exceptional precision and smooth, linear motion control in a compact package. This versatile actuator is ideal for a range of applications, including OEM applications, microscopes, translation stages, and mirror mounts, as well as any other components that require higher precision than standard drive mechanisms can provide. The ZST6 is equipped with a two-stage stepper motor with a tiny diameter and can function at velocities of a maximum of 0.5 mm/s. Moreover, it is sturdy enough to a maximum weight of 12 lbs. The ZST6 is equipped with a Ø0.375" high-tolerance mounting barrel which allows for fixture into any configuration suitable for precision micrometer heads. Additionally, a barrel that is 1/4"-80 threaded can be used with any manual standard mirror mount that utilizes 1/4"-80 threaded adjusters. The ZST6 has integrated electromechanical limit switches so that it cannot be abused and can easily be tracked and located with better than 10µm precision. The rear-mounted, high-density push/pull connectors offer a durable, compact connectivity solution.
To connect the ZST6 with TST001 Stepper Motor Controller, the package includes a ZST-CAB2 cable which comes with a hirose connector on one end and a 15-Pin, D-type connector on the other end. The 2 phase bi-polar stepper motor in the ZST6 has 4 full steps (15º increments) per revolution of the motor. Each full step is broken down into 128 microsteps, resulting in 3072 microsteps per revolution of the motor when using the TST001.
The output shaft of the ZST6's motor goes into a 76:1 planetary gearhead, which requires the motor to rotate 76 full revolutions to rotate the 0.5 mm pitch lead screw one revolution. The end result is the leadscrew advances by 0.5 mm, allowing for very small movements over the entire travel range and providing greater flexibility combined with fine resolution. To ensure that the ZST6 functions to the best of its ability, it is recommended that the lead screws be lubricated every 50,000 cycles or 6 months, whichever comes first. The ZST6 is compatible with the GKZ8 greasing kit, which provides an easy-to-use and cost-effective solution.
