The AC254-060-A1 by ThorLabs is a highly efficient visible achromatic doublet that delivers exceptional performance in the visible region. This unmounted doublet is cemented and computer optimized to ensure optimal results. The AC254-060-A1 is a go-to solution when controlling chromatic aberration is a priority. Monochromatic sources like lasers can produce diffraction-limited spots when used with this doublet.
The AC254-060-A1 utilizes the helium “D” line (587.6nm, yellow), hydrogen “F” (486.1nm, blue/green), and “C” (656.3nm, red) lines to represent the visible spectrum and define the V Abbe number of a material. Compared to singlet lenses, the AC254-060-A1 delivers superior optical performance. For imaging applications with demanding requirements or for laser beam manipulation needs, this doublet is an ideal choice. This doublet also offers significantly reduced sensitivity to the centration of lenses on the beam axis. This means that both lateral and transverse aberrations are significantly reduced when using this doublet.
The AC254-060-A1 boasts a nearly constant focal length over a wide range of wavelengths. When a white light source is used with a singlet lens, chromatic aberration causes the focal point and circle of least confusion to become blurred. This is a result of the variation of a material's refractive index with incident wavelength. On the other hand, the AC254-060-A1 can partially compensate for chromatic aberration due to the fact that it is made up of two different lens, each boasting a unique refractive index. This leads to partial cancellation of this unwanted effect.
