The AC254-100-A by ThorLabs is an achromatic doublet that has been optimized to provide optimal performance in the visible spectrum. The AC254-100-A is specifically designed to work with the 486.1 nm hydrogen “F” line, 587.6 nm helium “D” line, and 656.3 nm “C” line, which are crucial values in defining the Abbe Number (V) of a material.
With an AR coating for the 400 nm - 70 nm range, the AC254-100-A has a positive focal length of 100 mm and features a Ø1" diameter. To ensure the best performance of the AC254-100-A, it is essential to position the lens so that the largest radius of curvature (flattest) side is directed away from the collimated beam. The user can identify when the flattest side of the lens is at the bottom by checking the engraving of the doublet’s item number. The text should be right side up in this position. Moreover, a positive radius of curvature indicates the surface is opening to the right when the lens is oriented in a specific direction. In contrast, a negative radius of curvature shows that the surface is opening to the left. It is worth noting that both the positive and negative lenses have an infinite conjugate ratio.
