The AC508-300-A-ML by ThorLabs is an achromatic doublet that serves as an exceptional optical solution for a wide range of applications. This high-quality lens is AR coated for the 400 - 700 nm range, making it suitable for a variety of optical experiments and imaging techniques. Measuring at Ø2" in diameter and boasting a positive focal length of 300 mm, the AC508-300-A-ML is can be pre-mounted into a threaded mount that is engraved, making setup integration effortless.
The engraved markings on the threaded housing of the AC508-300-A-ML indicate the item number, focal length, and AR coating on the surface of the lens. The AC508-300-A-ML is designed with an engraved arrow that points from the side of the lens with the larger curvature radius (flatter side) to the side with the smaller curvature ratio. This arrow indicates the recommended light propagation direction to collimate a source. If focusing a collimated beam, the arrow should point in the opposite light propagation direction. A symbol of infinity on the lens also indicates the infinite conjugate ratio of the lens.
At conjugate ratios that are infinite, the AC508-300-A-ML is computer-optimized, ensuring optimal performance in a variety of applications. The design wavelengths used are the hydrogen "C" (red, 656.3 nm) lines, helium "d" (yellow, 587.6 nm) lines, and hydrogen "F" (green/blue, 486.1 nm) lines. These wavelengths are used to define the Abbe Number, Vd, of a material, and reasonably represent the visible spectrum. The AC508-300-A-ML is especially effective for limiting chromatic aberration and obtaining spot size that is defined by the diffraction limit when a narrow bandwidth source is used, such as lasers.
