The BE15M-A by ThorLabs is an optical beam expander optimized for reducing or expanding beam diameters. This beam expander is commonly used to decrease divergence, with a decrease in divergence proportional to the increase in magnification. It is also used for expanding the beam, which can then be focused with second lens to undergo spot size reduction. With its compact design, the BE15M-A is engineered to minimize the introduced wavefront error (<λ/4), minimize the telescope length, and deliver diffraction-limited performance (for <Ø1 mm input).
The BE15M-A's design features a plano-concave singlet for providing the divergence that is desired and a doublet that has been computer optimized to re-collimate the beam and balance aberrations. The diverging lens can be adjusted with 50 µm increment graduations using the rotary barrel. This beam expander has a broadband antireflection (AR) coating for the 400 nm - 650 nm wavelength range and an expansion size of 15X. The BE15M-A comes with several options for mounting in fixed or kinematic mounts. The input aperture is threaded, making it compatible with externally threaded SM05 configurations. As a result, this beam expander can be used with many compatible kinematic mounts, lens holders, iris diaphragms, and other optomechanics.
