The CM1-PBS251 by ThorLabs is a high-quality polarizing beam splitter cube designed for precise optical experimentation and analysis. The CM1-PBS251 utilizes 1” (25.4 mm) polarizing beam splitter cubes and is mounted in a 30 mm cage system compatible housing, making it versatile and ideal for use in a wide range of applications.
The CM1-PBS251 has a protective dielectric coating along the junction of the two right angle prisms which form the cube. This specialized coating reflects s-polarized light, while transmitting p-polarized light, allowing for the highest polarization purity possible. For optimal results, it is recommended to use the transmitted beam which offers a 1000:1 (Tp:Ts) extinction ratio. Although the reflected beam can still be utilized, it only has an extinction ratio ranging between 20:1 and 100:1 depending on the beam splitter's design.
To minimize losses due to reflections, the entrance and exit faces of the CM1-PBS251 have broadband antireflective coatings. The dielectric beam splitter coating is applied to the hypotenuse of one of the two prisms that make up the cube, and the two halves are then cemented together for added stability. The mount itself is engraved to indicate the optimal position for light entry - through the entrance face - for best performance. Additionally, the CM1-PBS251 is compatible with cage and lens tube systems, making it a versatile tool for a wide range of optical experiments and analysis. The device is epoxied within the cage cube mount for added durability and cannot be removed from the mount.
