The ThorLabs FG550LEC is a core multimode optical fiber that boasts impressive power handling capabilities with its TECS hard-clad construction. With its high-quality fibers, the FG550LEC is ideal for use in various applications, including but not limited to spectroscopy, optogenetics, and medical diagnostics.
The FG550LEC is specially constructed with double-cladding, which incorporates a TECS coating and silica cladding that is fluorine-doped. This design ensures that the silica cladding is strongly bonded to the TECS cladding, reducing pistoning and providing more stable terminations. Additionally, the dual-waveguide design improves power handling and bend performance, enhancing the fiber's strength, reducing static fatigue, and protecting the fiber during stripping. To disconnect a fiber with a ferrule or connector, the TECS cladding can be simply removed using acetone. The FG550LEC performs exceptionally well, providing impressive transmission from the Vis to NIR (the Low OH is 400 to 2200 nm) or UV to the NIR (the High OH is 250 to 1200 nm). This feature makes it an excellent choice for applications that require high-quality transmission in these wavelength ranges.
