The ThorLabs GBE15-C is a top-of-the-line Galilean beam expander that can magnify or reduce the collimated beam size by up to 15 times. The GBE15-C is specifically designed with low aberration and achromaticity to deliver a wavefront error lower than λ/4. This ensures that the system delivers diffraction-limited performance. The GBE15-C is an ideal choice for tasks that need a tight, diffraction-limited waist such as devices or instruments with tiny opening holes.

The GBE15-C is fabricated using an achromat and a lens made of N-BASF2 and N-BK7. In order to reduce the reflections present on air-to-glass interfaces, the GBE15-C’s optics have a broadband anti-reflection coating that can be found on the lenses on both sides. The unique coating of the optics significantly reduces the maximum surface reflectance to less than 0.5%, as compared to that of an uncoated optic which typically has a reflectance rate of 4%.

With the GBE15-C's design consisting of a sliding lens, it is possible to change collimation while still minimizing beam displacement. For precise control over the output beam collimation, the user can use the red ring and lock it in place with a 0.05" hex key by tightening the locking screw. Then, the desired collimation can be achieved without further adjustments. With this special housing design, the collimation adjustment ring can be turned without causing any rotation to the attached optics, allowing for divergence adjustment with no disruption and stability of the pointing direction.

The GBE15-C is equipped with threaded output and input connections, which make the installation of additional lenses or filters along the optical axis of the beam expander extremely convenient. The input of the GBE15-C has internal SM05 (0.535"-40) and external SM1 (1.035"-40) threads, which makes it compatible with various optical components. The Ø1.2" section of the barrel on the GBE15-C has an externally SM2-threaded output and should be mounted using the wider Ø2.2" section of the housing, which is the same diameter as a Ø2" lens tube. Additionally, it can be mounted directly into a 60 mm cage system using the LCP09.
