The LA1207-A by ThorLabs is a plano-convex lens that is specifically designed for applications requiring superior optical performance. The lens is crafted from N-BK7 glass, which is RoHS-compliant, and boasts an antireflection (AR) coating optimized for the 350 nm to 700 nm range. The LA1207-A boasts a 100 mm positive focal length and features a near-best-form shape that makes it an excellent choice for both finite and infinite conjugate applications.
The LA1207-A is an ideal solution for tasks that involve either focusing a collimated beam or collimating light from a point source. For optimal results, use a collimated light source when focusing the lens on a curved surface, and a point light source when collimating it on a planar surface. This will help reduce spherical aberration to the minimum. Compared to UV fused silica, the N-BK7 glass of the LA1207-A offers superior performance in situations where benefits such as good transmission into the UV and a lower coefficient of thermal expansion are not required.
One of the key features of the LA1207-A is its AR coating, which effectively reduces the amount of light reflected from each surface of the lens. As uncoated substrates reflect approximately 4% of incident light at each surface, the application of an AR coating significantly improves transmission, especially in low-light applications. Additionally, undesirable effects like ghost images that are associated with multiple reflections are prevented with the AR coating. The AR coating applied to both surfaces of the LA1207-A lens makes it particularly desirable for applications that require multiple optical elements.
