The ThorLabs LA4716-UV is a superior quality plano-convex lens, expertly crafted to provide exceptional performance for a wide range of applications. This lens is sized at Ø1" and is designed with a specialized UV antireflection (AR) coating that is deposited on both surfaces of the lens for the 245 nm - 400 nm range. This unique coating makes the LA4716-UV an ideal choice for applications from the UV range to the near infrared (IR) range.
Made from high-grade fused silica material, the LA4716-UV offers high transmission in the deep UV while exhibiting virtually no fluorescence that is induced by a laser. This capability enables the lens to be optimal for use in critical applications where image quality and transmission are of the utmost importance. The LA4716-UV is specifically designed to collimate light from a point source or focus a collimated beam to the back focus, minimizing the introduction of spherical aberration. To achieve the best possible results, a collimated light should be projected onto the curved surface of the lens when focusing, and a when collimation is attempted, the point light source should be used on the planar surface.
The LA4716-UV also has a focal length of 750.0 mm and can be used instead of an achromatic doublet in a situation when the quality of the image is not paramount. The lens is coated with an additional AR coating, which is particularly desirable for applications with multiple optical elements. This coating significantly improves transmission and prevents undesirable effects, like ghost images, associated with multiple reflections. With the AR coating, the LA4716-UV is an excellent choice for low-light applications. It should be noted that this lens is preferable over a bi-convex lens if the absolute magnification desired is either greater than 5 or less than 0.2.
