The LA4782-UV by ThorLabs is a premium quality fused silica plano-convex lens with a diameter of Ø2" and deposited on both surfaces, the user can find a 245 nm - 400 nm UV antireflection coating. The LA4782-UV lens offers superior deep UV light transmission with minimum fluorescence (measured at 193 nm), which makes it an ideal option for various applications from the near IR to the UV spectrum.
Made with UV-grade fused silica, the LA4782-UV lens provides improved homogeneity and a thermal expansion coefficient that is lower than the N-BK7 substrate, making it an ideal option for high-performance optical applications. Whether one is looking to focus a collimated beam to the back focus or collimate light from a point source, this lens can do it all with ease. In order to minimize spherical aberration from being introduced, a point light source should be incident of the planar surface when collimating in addition to the collimated light source being incident on the lens’ curved surface when being focused. Moreover, the LA4782-UV lens can also be used as a substitute for achromatic doublets when image quality is not critical.
The LA4782-UV lens is coated with an additional AR coating, making it particularly desirable for applications that involve multiple optical elements. An uncoated substrate reflects approximately 4% of the incident light at each surface, and the AR coating improves transmission while preventing undesirable effects such as ghost images associated with multiple reflections. The LA4782-UV plano-convex lens converges collimated incident light, similar to bi-convex lenses. However, it is preferable to use the plano-convex lens if the absolute magnification desired is either greater than 5 or less than 0.2. Lastly, the LA4782-UV is compatible with fixed lens mounts, making it easy to mount and use in a variety of applications.
