The LA5763 by ThorLabs is an exceptional plano-convex lens that is specifically designed for infinite and finite conjugate applications. With a vacuum-grade calcium fluoride (CAF2) substrate, the LA5763 offers high transmission from 0.18 µm to 8.0 μm, making it ideal for a wide range of applications.
The LA5763 has a positive focal length of 50 mm, and its substrate of CaF2 has high transmission in the infrared and ultraviolet spectral ranges. The material features a refractive index that is low, ranging from 1.35 to 1.51, and boasts a laser damage threshold that is extremely high and makes the material compatible with excimer lasers. Moreover, the material is highly chemically inert and offers superior hardness compared to its counterparts such as lithium fluoride, magnesium fluoride, and barium fluoride.
The LA5763 has been crafted with minimal spherical aberration and can be calculated using a simplified thick lens equation. To avoid introducing spherical aberrations, it is recommended to bend light gradually as it propagates through the lens. To focus a collimated light source using the LA5763, the light should be incident on its curved surface. When adjusting a point-like light source, the expanding light rays need to be incident on the straight surface of the lens for proper collimation.
