The LC5269 by ThorLabs is a plano-concave lens designed to offer exceptional optical performance across a broad range of wavelengths. The lens features a Ø1" calcium fluoride (CaF2) substrate that provides high transmission from 0.18 µm to 8.0 μm, making it ideal for a variety of applications that require efficient transmission in both the infrared and ultraviolet spectral ranges. The LC5269 can also be used to diminish spherical aberration effects that occur because of other lenses present in an optical system, providing users with greater flexibility in their experimental designs. To minimize spherical aberration, the lens’ curved surface should be placed facing the direction of the source.
One of the key features of the LC5269 is its negative focal length of -40.0 mm, which enables it to diverge collimated beams. The CaF2 substrate of the lens is particularly useful for applications that require high laser damage threshold. With its superior hardness and chemical inertness compared to other fluoride substrates such as barium fluoride, magnesium fluoride, and lithium fluoride, the LC5269 can withstand the high energy levels generated by excimer lasers. The refractive index of calcium fluoride varies from 1.35 to 1.51 within its usage range of 180 nm to 8.0 μm, making it a versatile material for a variety of optical experiments. Its low refractive index also means that it can be used to reduce the effects of chromatic aberration in an optical system.
