The LJ4107 by ThorLabs is a plano-convex cylindrical lens designed for a various applications in the UV to near IR spectrum. Made from fused silica that is UV grade, this uncoated lens produces high transmission in the deep UV region, while exhibiting virtually fluorescence that is laser-induced (as measured at 193 nm). With a wavelength range of 185 nm - 2.1 μm and a focal length of 25.4 mm, the LJ4107 offers exceptional one dimensional magnification, making it ideal for applications requiring precise shaping and focusing of a beam.
The LJ4107 provides symmetrical action on an incident ray, functioning similarly to spherical lenses, but only in one dimension. One of the most common uses for the LJ4107 is in conjunction with a cylindrical lenses pair in order for a beam to be anamorphically shaped. Additionally, a couple of cylindrical lenses that are positive can be utilized to circularize and collimate a laser diode output. Another possible application is to use a single lens to focus a diverging beam onto a detector array. To produce the best outcome and reduce spherical aberration, curved surfaces must be subjected to collimated light sources when creating a line, and plano surfaces should receive line sources to form down a collimated line.
