The NDUV30A by ThorLabs is a top-of-the-line neutral density (ND) filter made from high-quality UV fused silica substrates with a nickel coating deposited on one side for a flat spectral response. The NDUV30A is specially designed for light attenuation in the UV, making it perfect for a variety of applications in the UV to the near IR range.
The NDUV30A boasts high transmission and negligible laser-induced fluorescence, as measured at 193 mm, making it ideal for a wide range of uses. Its substrate provides excellent transmission up to 2.1 µm, making it a versatile filter for a range of applications. The filter has an optical density of 3.0 and is specified at the design wavelength of 300 nm for optimal use in the UV range. However, it should be noted that some variation in the OD may occur over the usable range.
The NDUV30A is usable in the 200 - 1200 nm spectral range and has a size of Ø25 mm, housed in a SM1 (1.035"-40)-threaded lens tube. It is engraved with the part number, filter type (i.e., reflective), and optical density for easy identification. Additionally, if desired, the mount can be removed from its housing by unscrewing the retaining ring that secures the filter to the mount. A compatible spanner wrench can be used with the retaining ring for attachment and removal.
To maintain the NDUV30A's quality, it should only be cleaned using blown air, as contact may cause scratching to the unprotected surface. While the nickel coating does absorb some of the incident light, making it suitable for low-power applications, it is resistant to aging under normal conditions. However, oxidation may occur at elevated temperatures, so it is recommended to use the NDUV30A at temperatures below 100 °C for optimal performance. To achieve the best results, it is recommended that light is incident on the side with the nickel coating, which allows attenuation to occur before etalon effects within the filter's substrate.
