The PDB140C by ThorLabs is a fixed gain balance detector used as an exceptional tool designed for extracting small changes in signal path from interfering noise floor. This detector provides a fixed gain and cancels out common mode noise through the subtraction of two input signals from each other. This process enables the PDB140C to detect small variations in signal levels with high precision and accuracy.
The impressive results of the PDB140C can be attributed to its incorporation of advanced features, such as an ultra-low noise, high-speed transimpedance amplifier in addition to two balanced InGaAs photodiodes. This robust device has a frequency response of up to 15 MHz and is OCT-proven with an active aliasing filter. As a result, the PDB140C is suitable for a wide range of applications, including optical coherence tomography, interferometry, and spectroscopy. The housing of the PDB140C is made of rugged, shielded aluminum that provides excellent protection against electromagnetic interference. The housing also features a versatile #8-32 and M4 x 0.7 threaded mounting adapter plate, allowing users to position the detector at their convenience. The PDB140C comes with a ±12 V DC power supply for easy operation.
Furthermore, the PDB140C is designed to accommodate various fiber-coupled or free-space applications with its two optical inputs that have removable and interchangeable connectors. The detector's three electrical SMA connectors offer a balanced output signal and a power monitor for each of the two input signals. These power monitors enable users to monitor and control input power levels while providing independent power meters for each channel.
