The WPH05M-670 by ThorLabs is an exceptional zero-order half-wave plate that has been engineered using two Multi-Order Crystalline Quartz Wave Plates. The combination of these two plates produces an optical path length difference of λ/2, resulting in a high-quality optical component that offers superior performance.
The WPH05M-670 features an air-spaced design that is optimized for a high damage threshold. With a clear aperture of Ø10.0 mm (Ø0.39”), the WPH05M-670 is mounted in a Ø1" housing that is compatible with SM1-threaded rotation mounts when used with a SM1RR Retaining Ring. What's more, this half-wave plate is easily removed from its mounts for use in OEM or custom applications. To remove it, a spanner wrench can be used to remove the retaining ring that secures the optic in the mount.
The WPH05M-670 is a compound zero-order wave plate that offers a dependence on wavelength and temperature that is lower than multi-order wave plates. To get a compound retarder with a specific retardance value, the user can align the slow axis of one of the plates and the fast axis of another plate. The outcome will be the differentiation between the respective retardance levels of each plate. This results in a high-performance optical component that can be relied on for consistent and accurate results.
Constructed using an etched spacing ring made of stainless steel placed between the two multi-order wave plates, the WPH05M-670 is epoxyed together and mounted in an anodized aluminum housing. It should be notes that on the outside of the wave plate clear aperture, the adhesive is only applied to the outside. The waveplate's housing features a visual cue of a line that marks its alignment, as well as text that confirms its identification as a specialized plate and its specified wavelength range. Additionally, this half-wave plate is AR coated on all optical surfaces and it has a design wavelength of 670 nm.
