The WPQ05M-1030 by ThorLabs is an innovative zero-order quarter-wave plate engineered using two Multi-Order Crystalline Quartz Wave Plates that are carefully aligned to create an optical path length difference of λ/4. The result is a compound retarder that boasts unparalleled precision and reliability. The WPQ05M-1030 is uniquely designed to offer a lower dependence on temperature and wavelength than traditional multi-order wave plates. This makes it an ideal choice for applications where stability and accuracy are critical, such as in laser optics, polarimetry, and interferometry.
The WPQ05M-1030 features an Ø1/2" optic that is mounted in a Ø1" unthreaded housing. The wave plate is constructed by placing an etched stainless steel spacing ring between the two multi-order wave plates and bonding the three pieces together with epoxy. It should be noted that that the adhesive is only applied outside of the clear aperture of the wave plate, ensuring optimal optical performance. Additionally, the WPQ05M-1030 is mounted in an anodized aluminum housing that is engraved with a line indicating the orientation of the fast axis of the wave plate, text stating it is a zero-order quarter-wave plate, and that the design wavelength of 1030 nm.
