The BA1L by ThorLabs is a top-of-the-line imperial mounting base designed to optimize space on an optical breadboard. The BA1L boasts a generous 1.44" (36.6 mm) of lateral positioning and can be secured to an optical breadboard by two screws, regardless of orientation.

One of the key features of the BA1L is its universal design, allowing it to work seamlessly with both imperial and metric components such as post holders. For optimal results, it's recommended to match a metric base with a metric optical breadboard and an imperial base with an imperial breadboard. Doing so will ensure the bases fit flush against each other, without leaving unused rows of holes. The BA1L is most commonly used for positioning and fastening Ø1/2" post holders to optical tables. These post holders are effortlessly attached via 1/4"-20 (M6) cap screws placed through the bottom-located counterbores in the base. In addition, the BA1L is machined parallel and perpendicular to within 0.002" (0.05 mm) and includes bottom relief cuts to enhance stability.
