The CPA1 by ThorLabs is a drop-in cage alignment plate designed to simplify the process of aligning visible beams in cage-based optical systems. Made from durable anodized aluminum, the CPA1 boasts a centrally-located through hole in the cage assembly that measures Ø0.9 mm, Ø1 mm, or Ø5 mm, depending on the needs of the user. This through hole is surrounded by engraved alignment rings, providing an effortless and straightforward way to align beams in an optical system.

In addition to the standard aluminum version, fluorescent cage alignment plates made from cast acrylic are also available for fluorescence applications. These plates offer the same reliable alignment capabilities as the standard CPA1, with the added benefit of being optimized for use with fluorescent light sources.

By using the CPA1, it can be ensured that an optical system is precisely aligned every time. When installing a laser, it is essential to level and orientate the beam so that it travels along a well-defined path. Once this is accomplished, the CPA1's alignment rings make it easy to divert the beam and route it through the various optical elements in a system.

The alignment process with the CPA1 is iterative and requires fine control, which is why the mount's pitch adjuster is critical. After adjusting a mirror, if any adjuster reaches or approaches its limit of travel, one or both mirrors should be repositioned, and the alignment process repeated. With the CPA1, accurate and repeatable alignment can be achieved with ease.
