The DDR05 by ThorLabs is a direct drive continuous rotation mount engineered to meet the needs of applications that require high-speed rotation of components within a cage or other system. This mount is ideal for scanning, surface mapping, and laser welding applications that demand a high degree of accuracy and control. The DDR05 can provide a continuous rotation of a load with an inertia moment of up to 70 kg.mm2 with an impressive 2 µrad resolution and a maximum rotation speed of 5 Hz (300 rpm).
Designed to be mounted vertically on a cage system or post, the rotating plate of the DDR05 features an SM05-threaded through hole that accommodates Ø0.5" optics. Additionally, the SM05 threaded central aperture allows an optical path to pass directly through the body of the stage. An array of threaded holes in the rotating face allows for 16 mm cage system components to be fitted, while the rotating front face features four 4-40 tapped holes that allow for the integration of 16 mm cage assemblies and components. The non-rotating faces of the DDR05 feature four 4-40 tapped holes that allow for use with cage system components. The front face of the mount is compatible with 30 mm cages, while the rear face can be used with 16 mm systems.
The DDR05 is powered by a compatible TBD001 brushless DC controller, providing highly precise and fine positioning and control through a stable closed-loop control system. The 3-phase, brushless DC motor is integrated directly into the frame of the DDR05, eliminating all forms of mechanical transmission and providing high repeatability, rigidity, and reliability. The winding design eliminates torque ripple due to magnetic cogging, enabling good velocity stability even at low speeds. The high-resolution encoder mounted directly on the moving world provides high accuracy and repeatability, while the precision-engineered bearings and tight manufacturing tolerances produce very low axial wobble (400 µrad). An engraved graduated scale with 2° increments allows for coarse positioning. With its low profile of just 28.9 mm and high-quality, precision-engineered bearings, the DDR05 is a powerful tool that is also lightweight, with dimensions of 54.0 mm x 54.0 mm x 28.9 mm and a weight of 0.39 kg.
