The ELL9 by ThorLabs is a top-of-the-line SM1-threaded four-position slider designed to meet the demands of applications requiring multiple networked Elliptec resonant motor products. The ELL9 is the perfect solution for OEMs and applications that require rapid switching in addition to scanning applications due to its resonant piezo design offers precise positioning and fast response times. Additionally, one of the key benefits of the ELL9 is that it does not include magnets like traditional motors which makes it ideal for applications that are sensitive to electromagnetic interference.
The ELL9 has a SM1-threaded bore with 3.5 mm threads and the four 4-40 tapped holes in the PCB, which are compatible with 30 mm cage systems, make it easy to mount the slider. Additionally, the PCB incorporates an 8-pin male Picoflex connector and can be post-mounted with compatible cage system rods and a cage plate. The ELL9's high-speed digital signal processing (DSP) architecture supports a multi-drop serial communication protocol, and a set of digital IO lines allows the user to control the movement and state manually by switching the lines high (5V) or low (0V). This functionality makes it easy to integrate the ELL9 into existing systems. The ELL9 can be controlled in three ways: with a handset that allows manual switching between the optic positions, with Elliptec software running on a PC, and by writing a custom application using specific messages. Homing and position switching functionality can also be accessed by applying voltages to the digital lines on Connector J2.
Multiple Elliptec devices can be controlled using the ELLB Bus Distributor or by splicing multiple connectors onto one ribbon cable. A single bus distributor can connect up to four Elliptec devices; up to 16 devices can be connected if the buses are daisy chained. It's important to note that the ELL9 is not designed for continuous operation, so it's recommended to operate the slider with duty cycles of 40% or less. Overall, the ELL9 is an exceptional product that offers fast response times, precise positioning, and multiple control options, making it an ideal solution for a wide range of different applications.
