The KBM1B by ThorLabs is a cutting-edge bottom plate that serves as the foundation for a high-precision, low-profile, lockable kinematic magnetic breadboard base. Featuring a robust magnetic coupling mechanism, the KBM1B can be effortlessly attached to a top mounting plate using a high-strength magnet, allowing for seamless interchangeability between different optomechanical setups. The two 2.00" (50.0 mm) long counterbored slots are specifically designed for 1/4"-20 (M6) cap screws, enabling secure mounting to an optical table for reliable stability during operation.

The KBM1B's magnetic switch, operated with a 3/16" (5 mm) hex wrench, allows for easy and precise engagement and disengagement of the magnetic force between the bottom plate and the compatible top plate. This innovative switch design minimizes the risk of damage or misalignment to precision components and fragile payloads during setup or dismantling, ensuring optimal performance and longevity of your optomechanical system. The KBM1B boasts a ball and V-groove design, enabling kinematic positioning of the top plate with unparalleled precision. To prevent any potential damage to the kinematic seats, it is important to set the switch to "off" before placing the top plate, and engage it only after the top plate has been properly installed.

For maximum stability, the KBM1B allows for the center of mass of optomechanics to be mounted within the triangular region between the kinematic seats, ensuring reliable and precise positioning of optical components. Once the KBM1B is securely attached to the bottom plate, it can be seamlessly integrated with a FT-38X135 FiberBench, a versatile system designed for coupling fiber optic setups into free space. This facilitates quick exchange, insertion, or removal of optical components while maintaining a consistent optical axis, ensuring seamless and efficient operation.
