The KS2 by ThorLabs is a precision kinematic mirror mount, designed to hold Ø1" (or Ø25 mm) and Ø2" (or Ø50 mm) optics, providing a ±4° pitch and yaw adjustment for each. The KS2's rigid mechanical design, featuring thick back plates, ensures long-term stability and reliability.
The KS2 optic is held securely in place with a nylon-tipped setscrew that provides side optic retention, while pretension screws minimize beam shift when locking. Stainless steel lead screws with brass bushings allow for smooth and precise adjustment, while the counterbored mounting holes permit post mounting in either left- or right-handed orientations. The KS2's increased mass, stiffer springs, and hardened inserts at all contact points enhance the overall performance of the mount.
With three 1/4"-80 TPI lockable adjusters, the KS2 allows the adjustment range to be altered by translating the front plate of the mirror mount, while reducing drift for long-term stable operation. For locking these adjusters, compatible POLARIS-LN1 lock nuts must be installed. The spacing between the front and back plate must be 0.190" (4.83 mm) for the adjustment range to be symmetric. Using all three adjusters, the Ø2" precision kinematic mount can achieve a maximum Z translation of 0.25" (6.4 mm). Additionally, the KS2 is compatible with lens tubes, thanks to its included SM-threaded optic cells. The KS2's housing is fabricated from black anodized aluminum, which offers excellent durability and resistance to wear. Hardened stainless steel inserts at kinematic contact points help to further reduce wear, ensuring a longer lifespan for the device.
