The POLARIS-K05 by ThorLabs is a Ø1/2" Polaris mirror mount that is specifically designed to offer effortless, high-resolution adjustments and stringent long-term alignment stability. The POLARIS-K05 boasts an integrated matched adjuster/body design that provides greater durability and thermal performance than non-Polaris mirror mounts.
Crafted from heat-treated stainless steel with a low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), the POLARIS-K05 utilizes precision-matched adjusters with ball contacts and sapphire seats to offer smooth kinematic adjustment and heightened durability. The mount features a ±5° mechanical angular range, an impressive ~11 mrad/rev resolution, and less than 2 µrad deviation after 12.5°C temperature cycling. With a compact 1" wide footprint and stainless steel surface, the POLARIS-K05 is perfect for vacuum and high-power laser cavity applications.
The POLARIS-K05 mount features a flexure spring and a setscrew that retains the optic, enabling it to be adjusted with a 1/16" (1.5 mm) hex key. This design offers high holding force and pointing stability while allowing quick and easy installation of the optic. Kinematic adjustment is provided by three 130 TPI adjusters that have a 5/64" (2.0 mm) hex and may be adjusted with a 5/64" (2.0 mm) hex wrench. This three-adjuster design also provides tip and tilt plus Z-axis (optical axis) adjustment. The mount is equipped with optic bores that are precision machined to ensure a fit that provides optimum beam pointing stability over changing environmental conditions such as temperature changes, transportation shock, and vibration. It should be noted that the POLARIS-K05's performance is dependent on whether or not the optics have an outer diameter tolerance greater than zero or smaller metric mirror sizes.
For post mounting, the POLARIS-K05 features two #8 (M4) counterbores. Additionally, Ø2 mm alignment pin holes are located on both sides of each counterbore to help set a mounting angle and precise location. For custom mounting configuration, standard DIN 7-m6 ground dowel pins should be used. It is suggested to use a a stainless steel post with alignment pin holes that are Ø2 mm in size with the mount. The shallow design of the counterbores allows for low-profile 8-32 and M4 cap screws to be included for mounting without obstructing the transmissive beam path. The 8-32 cap screw accepts a 5/64" (2.0 mm) hex wrench, while the M4 cap screw accepts a 1/10" (2.5 mm) hex wrench.
