The ThorLabs POLARIS-K25F4/M mirror mount is an exceptional product designed to provide the user with long-term stability and minimize optic distortion. This low distortion mirror mount has a 2-adjuster design that limits degrees of freedom for movement, which improves stability. Additionally, the POLARIS-K25F4/M is designed specifically for Ø25 mm optics and is hex-driven.

The POLARIS-K25F4/M comes equipped with a three-point-contact faceplate to mount the optic. This faceplate has an indexed optic retention spring that makes contact with the optic at three different locations, which reduces optic distortion. One of the three contact points of the faceplate incorporates a spring-loaded ball contact that further aids in reducing optic distortion. The mount also features an indexed optic retention spring and a retaining ring. The POLARIS-K25F4/M’s TPI adjusters feature three Ø0.07" through holes that allow for actuation from the side using a compatible precision-fit side hole adjustment tool or a 1/16" balldriver or hex key. Each adjuster also has a 2.0 mm hex and may be adjusted using compatible tools.

The POLARIS-K25F4/M's performance is optimized for use with a Ø1" stainless steel post. The posts have two points of contact that ensure that the bottom of the mount is tightly held in place in fluctuating temperatures, which prevents alignment issues from occurring. The adjusters can be locked with compatible lock nuts or locking collars. The beam can be held on target with the adjuster thumb screw or hex key while lightly tightening the lock nut or locking collar by hand. To ensure long-term stability, it is recommended to tighten the lock nut or locking collar to a torque of 32 oz-in with a preset torque wrench. For applications that require frequent tuning of the adjusters, the lock nut or locking collar only needs to be lightly tightened to a torque of approximately 4 to 8 oz-in.

The POLARIS-K25F4/M is fabricated from stainless steel, which has a relatively low coefficient of thermal expansion. Therefore, it is recommended to use components that are fabricated from the same material when mounting the mirror mount. Additionally, all optics should be mounted while the POLARIS-K25F4/M is out of the setup to ensure accurate mounting that will minimize misalignment effects. To minimize the impact of vibrations and temperature changes, it is recommended to keep the setup as low profile as possible. Using short posts will reduce the y-axis translation caused by temperature variations and will minimize any movements caused by vibrations.
