The PRM1-Z7 by ThorLabs is a motorized rotation stage that serves as a compact and high-precision device designed for 1” optics. The PRM1-Z7 can be seamlessly integrated with the TDC0001 DC servo controller to provide smooth and continuous motion control, with options for both manual and automated operation via the intuitive software interface.

The PRM1-Z7 is designed for precision measurement of angles with the help of a Vernier dial and graduation marks on its rotating plate, marked in 1° increments. This versatile rotation stage boasts a high-resolution DC motor actuator, providing a remarkable one arcsecond of resolution over the entire 360° of rotation. The PRM1-Z7 is also equipped with a precision home limit switch, allowing for automated rotation to the zero datum position, ensuring absolute angular positioning at all times. Specifically designed for multiple 360° cycles, the limit switch ensures smooth rotation of the stage without any interruptions. The rotation driven by the DC servo motor can also be equipped with a 256:1 gearbox and a rotary encoder for accurate closed-loop position control.

The PRM1-Z7 offers two mounting options for maximum flexibility, enabling the stage to be mounted either vertically on a post or horizontally using an adapter plate. Vertical mounting results in a reduced thickness of the stage, making it ideal for optical path applications where space is limited. On the other hand, horizontal mounting provides a compact and useful rotation stage for any motion control applications when the unit is fitted with an upper adapter plate. The rotating platform also features several opportunities for mounting accessories, including a standard SM1 internal thread on the central aperture, ensuring compatibility with a range of optics. Additionally, with the series of threaded mounting holes, standard ‘tongue and groove’ accessories can be mounted using the PRM1SP1(/M) grooved adapter plate, raising the deck height to 29 mm.

The PRM1-Z7 is designed to accommodate Ø1" optics up to 0.50" (12.5mm) thick, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. The PRM1-Z7 is also compatible with an APT server, which can be used to aid in setting the parameters of the unit correctly. The number of parameters must be set in relation to the physical characteristics of the stage being driven to ensure proper operation. These parameters include leadscrew pitch, minimum and maximum positions, homing direction, and more.
