The PTS603 by ThorLabs is a set of four active isolating supports that are an exceptional solution to the problem of vibration isolation in optical tables. The PTS603 supports are designed to eliminate vibrations from vertical and horizontal sources, within the critical 3 to 50 Hz frequency range, which are commonly found in laboratory environments.

The PTS603 supports are ideal for large-amplitude sources of vibrations and can work efficiently with a Nexus® series optical table in a quiet environment. With these supports in place, even the most vibrationally sensitive photonics experiments, such as interferometry, holography, and nanopositioning, can be carried out with precision and accuracy. In environments that are prone to vibrations, such as in tall steel buildings, the PTS603 supports are equipped with active dampening technology to reduce the intensity of the transmitted vibrations. Since the table top is usually the heaviest component, it is essential to ensure that the system's center of mass is near the center of the table or below its surface. This can be achieved by relocating equipment on the table or by using accessory shelves situated below the table surface.

The PTS603 supports are designed for vertical or horizontal isolation. In vertical isolation, the dual-chamber pneumatic isolation system isolates the vertical vibrations from the optical table, requiring a constant source of compressed air, such as an air compressor. If the compressed air source is removed, the optical table will lower and rest on the large-diameter cylindrical optical table supports, thereby losing its isolation from floor vibrations. In horizontal isolation, the vertical isolation system is mounted on a trifilar suspension system, eliminating the need to use oil-based damping systems that can leak or degrade over time.

The PTS603 supports are fitted with a 3-way valve that regulates the pressure of the pneumatic isolation system, helping to adjust and maintain the height of the optical table. If the table is vertically out of place, a 3-way valve will reduce the pressure in the dual-chamber air reservoir to restore it to its initial height. With a height of 700 mm (27.5”), the PTS603 supports are designed to accommodate different optical table thicknesses, producing a working height of 910 mm (35.8"). A set of four isolators is capable of supporting loads up to 2500 kg (5500 lbs), and additional isolators may be necessary for higher loads, long tables, or custom-designed joined systems.
