The SH05 by ThorLabs is an optical beam shutter that is the perfect solution for fast and reliable laser safety applications. This high-quality electro-mechanical actuator provides sub-millisecond shutter operation, ensuring that a laser system remains secure and safe.
Designed with a passive closure mechanism, the SH05 is the ideal shutter for applications that require a laser safety lockout. When the shutter is closed, it remains in a locked position until opened with a pulse control signal. The shutter will remain open as long as the control voltage to the shutter remains high, but if the voltage decreases suddenly, the shutter will close, providing fail-safe operation. The SH05 features an optical sensor that detects the position of the shutter blade within the housing, allowing the user to confirm the state of the shutter position at all times. The rate at which the shutter opens can be easily controlled to suit the specific needs of the user.
With an input aperture that is threaded with the SM05 (0.535"-40) thread, the SH05 is compatible with all SM05 lens tubes. It also comes with 8-32 tapped holes for mounting to imperial Ø1/2" posts and a 10' cable to connect the shutter directly to a SC10 Controller. The SH05 has an Ø1/2" aperture with a single blade that slides across the aperture. The SH05's close activation time is ≤4.08 ms when used with the SC10 or KSC101 controller. Please note that the SH05 contains a rotary solenoid, which presents a large inductive load to the controlling device. As a result, the shutter timing varies and is dependent on the duration and magnitude of the driving pulse and the magnitude of the sustaining hold voltage.
The SC10 provides a 5 millisecond 24 V driving voltage to actuate the shutter and a holding voltage of 10 Volts. The SH05 is capable of operating at a sustained maximum rate of 25 Hz with a minimum on time of 10 ms. However, programmed exposure times (open times) beyond 20 ms may lead to magnetic distortion, TI, and TD/R. The delay from the control pulse to the shutter opening is 5 ms, and the duty cycle distortion incurred is ±5 ms.
