The ThorLabs SHB1T is a diaphragm optical beam shutter that is designed to provide optimal performance and safety for laser applications. The SHB1T features five stainless steel PTFE coated leaves, which offer a Ø1.00" aperture in a compact, Ø2.25", 0.38" thick housing.

To ensure seamless operation, the SHB1T is driven by a shutter controller, which is included in the package. The controller links to the shutter via a shielded 4-wire cable that connects to a mini-DIN connector with 4 pins. The controller is designed to provide the drive levels required for optimal performance and monitors the state of the shutter. The controller also comes equipped with a BNC connector for external modulation, allowing for even more flexibility in various laser applications. Additionally, an interlock output jack is included for added safety. A switching power supply is also provided, making this device ready for use straight out of the box.

The SHB1T can be controlled directly from an external modulation source or directly on the controller with designated buttons. Located on the top of the unit, there are two buttons that are used to open or close the shutter and turn the power on and off. The SHB1T’s external modulation port can drive the shutter up to a maximum frequency of 15 Hz, providing the user with precise control over laser applications. This device also includes a safety feature that automatically shuts down the shutter if it is run at its max frequency for too long to prevent overheating.

Safety is a top priority with the SHB1T, and this device is designed with multiple safety features. The controller detects the state of the shutter using an internal optical sensor inside the shutter package. This shutter is perfect for situations where a laser safety lock out is needed, as it has an interlock connector feature. This ensures maximum security and convenience for specific applications. When something wrong happens such as a blade jam, the SHB1T will automatically shut off while simultaneously altering the interlock status and its LED light turning red. The SHB1T will shut down to prevent beam shutter damage when it has been detected that the blades are not operating at the set frequency.
