The SM05SMA by ThorLabs is a fiber adapter plate that is a highly compatible and versatile tool for building free space single mode or multimode fiber couplers and collimators. Designed to work seamlessly with a variety of 16mm cage plates, the SM05SMA is an essential component for various free-space applications.

The SM05SMA also serves as an excellent light-tight coupling solution for SM05 (0.535"-40)-threaded photodetectors and other power meter sensors. It features external SM05 threads and boasts a light-tight construction when used with SM05 lens tubes. In addition, the SM05SMA is equipped with indents/dimples on the front surface, which allows the adapter to be tightened easily using a compatible spanner wrench. It is important to note that these indents do not go all the way through the disk. Although FC receptacles are too large to include the tightening indents, it is recommended to put an FC connector into the receptacle of the adapter to aid in tightening. This feature ensures that the SM05SMA is easy to use and highly effective in any setup.
