The ThorLabs PM320E is a highly versatile and precise dual-channel power and energy meter that is designed to cater to a wide range of applications. One of the key advantages of the PM320E is that it contains a host of features that are not commonly found in handheld devices. Over 25 different types of sensors are congenial with the PM320E, including Photodiode Sensors, Thermal Sensors, and Pyroelectric Sensors. The device can be linked to cathode grounded photodiodes or an unamplified anode that can generate up to 10 mA photocurrent, thermal elements that generate a maximum of 1 V output voltage and pyroelectric detectors with a ceiling of 100 V output voltage. The programmable channels of the PM320E include a monitor channel, a difference channel, a ratio channel, a math functions channel, a linear and log values channel, and an attenuation channel. Furthermore, the PM320E can measure pulse laser sources continuously and single-shot, with a 16-bit resolution across all power levels. This offers extremely accurate energy readings.

The PM320E has two separate sub-D connectors located to the rear, which are connected to calibrated sensors and provide two analog, high bandwidth outputs to monitor each channel. The device can be managed with either a large 240 × 128 LCD pixel display located on the front panel or a USB 2.0 interface that can be accessed remotely. The USB 2.0 interface on the optical power meter allows commands to be sent from a host computer to the PM320E.

The PM320E can be navigated with its three display/menu dependent soft buttons and a multi-control knob that allows for easy access to the device settings. Additionally, the installed utility software enables operating the device in addition to visualizing and logging measurement data. It has dimensions of 220 x 110 x 290 mm not including operating elements, 220 x 122 x 325 mm including operating elements and it weighs less than 4 kg.
