The Z812B by ThorLabs is a top-of-the-line motorized actuator that has been designed specifically for use with optical positioning devices. The Z812B is engineered to provide the highest possible resolution in a lightweight and compact package, making it ideally suited for demanding optical laboratory automation applications.

With its impressive 12 mm of travel, the Z812B is the perfect replacement for the former-generation Z712 motor. It is incredibly durable and designed to handle even the most demanding applications, making it ideal for use in mirror mounts, translation stages, microscopes, OEM applications, and a wide variety of other components that require higher precision than most standard drive mechanisms allow.

The Z812B is for use with 3/8" barrel clamps and has a motor that provides a motion velocity of 2.3 mm/s. It is compatible with a clamping bush fitted, ready for use with the barrel mount. The precision of the encoder (512 counts/rev) results in a minimum resolution of about 29 nm. Commercial limit switches have been added to provide overdrive protection and accurate home positioning. These limit switches are optimized for zero datum and actuator protection.

The Z812B utilizes a powerful 6V DC servomotor that provides sufficient torque for high load capabilities. It uses a 67.49:1 gear reduction head and a 512 counts per rev precision encoder, giving a minimum resolution of 29 nm. The actuators allow very small step sizes over the entire travel range, delivering greater flexibility with negligible backlash and fine resolution. The DC servomotor allows for continuously variable speeds while the optical encoder allows closed loop operation. The actuators use integrated hard stops that automatically cut the power when they have reached their mechanical limits.
