The LA4158 by ThorLabs is a excellent plano-convex lens designed for high-precision applications. This lens boasts a size of Ø1" and is crafted from premium quality UV-grade fused silica material. The use of UV-grade fused silica ensures exceptional deep UV transmission and virtually eliminates laser-induced fluorescence, making it the perfect choice for applications ranging from the UV to the near IR. Additionally, the LA4158 exhibits a coefficient of thermal expansion that is lower and homogeneity that is better in comparison to a substrate fabricated from N-BK7 material.
Featuring a focal length of 250.9 mm and an uncoated wavelength range of 185 nm - 2.1 μm, the LA4158 can effectively focus a collimated beam or collimate light from a point source with utmost precision. To ensure optimal results, it is recommended that a collimated light source be incident on the curved surface of the lens when being focused, and a point light source be incident on the planar surface when being collimated. The LA4158 is also a great substitute for achromatic doublets when image quality is not critical. It is particularly well-suited for applications where the desired absolute magnification is either less than 0.2 or greater than 5.
